During the upcoming year (2004-05), the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company will be creating three new dances (two of them in collaboration with other renowned dance companies).
The first new dance will be created together with HUBBARD STREET DANCE CHICAGO - which is based in Lubovitch's hometown. The work, tentatively titled Love Stories, will
feature the music of jazz vocalist Kurt Elling. The piece is currently slated to premiere in Chicago in early April 2005.
The second new dance will be created this fall by the LUBOVITCH COMPANY alone, as a
tribute to the singer/ composer/ choreographer Meredith Monk. The piece (set to music from Do You Be) will be performed by the Lubovitch company on November 23, 2004 at St.
Mark's Church as part of Meredith Monk's 40th anniversary gala. The dance -- which will be the first work by the Lubovitch company ever set to the music of Meredith Monk -- will be
performed by long-time company members Jason McDole, Rebecca Rigert and Scott Rink.
The third new dance will be created together with SAN FRANCISCO BALLET. The
currently untitled new work will be created during the spring of 2005 and will premiere in Paris in July 2005 as part of a special outdoor performance in the Marais. San Francisco
Ballet is already home to Lubovitch's masterwork Othello. And in February 2005 the company will add another Lubovitch hit to its repertory when it stages the company premiere of Smile With My Heart. The Lubovitch company will be organizing a trip to Paris
for friends of the company to attend the premiere and enjoy other exclusive events. Please let us know if you are interested.
Next New York Season of the Lubovitch Company Being Planned for Spring or Fall 2005
Fresh off the success of the 35th anniversary celebration of the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in May (which featured the premiere of Pentimento at Washington Square United
Methodist Church), the company is planning its next New York season, to take place in the spring or fall of 2005. The season will feature one of the company's new works, alongside re-stagings of existing favorites.
The company's newest work from earlier this year, Pentimento, was set to a musical sound score commissioned by the company from composer Richard Woodbury. The dance
featured dance sections layered on top of another, evoking a kind of choreographic pentimento. (Pentimento describes the phenomenon whereby an earlier image painted on a
canvas emanates through the surface of a later image painted over it as the later image fades with time).
