Building an efficient and “environmentally sound and healthful office environment”
The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company moved into the New 42nd Street Studio Building in midtown Manhattan in 2000. The move reflects the momentum the company has developed over the past several years as it transformed itself from a touring company into a creative company -- emphasizing the creation of new work that supplies repertory not just for itself but also for major dance companies throughout the world.
The advantages of our move to the new space have included: 1. A new state-of-the-art facility. 2. Long-term stability at below-market cost.
3. A shared community with other non-profits, including other dance companies. 4. Easy access to rehearsal space. 5. A building specifically designed for use by non-profit organizations. 6. Proximity to the
company's ticket buyers, board members, suppliers, theaters and funders, located in or near midtown Manhattan.
Going Forward
Starting in January 2006, we began a project to build our dream home: “an environmentally sound and healthful office environment commensurate with the professionalism and artistic aspirations of the company” -- to
quote the architect -- and one which enhances company workflow, productivity and communication.
We are honored to have the chance to work with architect Tony Daniels, a director at the architecture firm Studio A (a division of the 100-year old firm WASA). Mr. Daniels, well-known in the field of environmentally sensitive design and construction, is best known to New Yorkers for his work on the Coney Island/Stillwell Avenue subway station, an entirely solar powered building and one of the first of its kind.
